One of the biggest questions I get from families considering a Disney Cruise is:
“How much extra money should I budget once I’m onboard?”
The good news? Disney Cruises are surprisingly inclusive. In fact, after spending time at Disney World where it feels like you’re constantly pulling out your wallet, many families are shocked by how much is already covered on a Disney Cruise.
That doesn’t mean everything is free. There are definitely some extras that can add up if you’re not paying attention.
Here’s exactly what’s included and what costs extra so you can budget confidently before you sail.
What’s Included in Your Disney Cruise Fare
Your Stateroom
Your cabin is included, of course, but Disney’s staterooms are some of the most family-friendly at sea.
Many rooms include split bathrooms, extra storage, and thoughtful touches that make traveling with kids much easier.
Whether you’re in an inside room or a concierge suite, your cabin attendant is also included and will service your room twice daily.
Food (Lots and Lots of Food)
This is where many families get their money’s worth.
Included dining includes:
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Rotational dining restaurants
- Casual poolside food
- Room service
- Snacks around the ship
- Soft serve ice cream
- Most beverages
One of my favorite Disney Cruise facts is that you can order room service at no charge.
Want Mickey ice cream bars delivered to your room before bed? Go for it.
Want coffee and pastries delivered while you’re getting ready for the day? Also included.
(You’ll want to tip the crew member delivering it, but the food itself is included.)
Disney Entertainment
The entertainment onboard Disney Cruise Line is honestly one of the biggest reasons people become repeat cruisers.
Entertainment includes:
- Broadway-style shows
- Character meet-and-greets
- First-run Disney movies
- Deck parties
- Fireworks at sea (on select sailings)
- Trivia and game shows
- Kids clubs
- Teen clubs
- Family activities throughout the day
You can easily stay busy from morning until bedtime without spending another dollar.
Kids Clubs
If you’ve never seen Disney’s kids clubs, they’re incredible.
Included are:
- Oceaneer Club
- Oceaneer Lab
- Edge
- Vibe
Kids can meet characters, play themed games, participate in activities, and explore immersive spaces inspired by Disney stories.
Many parents tell me their biggest challenge is convincing their kids to leave.
Pools and Water Play Areas
All family pools, splash pads, and water play zones are included.
For families with little ones, this can become a daily tradition.
Our daughter would happily spend half a sea day alternating between snacks, splash pads, and character sightings.
Private Island Stops
Disney’s private destinations are often the highlight of the cruise.
Whether you’re visiting Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
You’ll find plenty included:
- Beaches
- Transportation on the island
- Lunch
- Character appearances
- Many family activities
You don’t have to spend a penny to have a fantastic beach day.
What Costs Extra
Now let’s talk about the items that aren’t included.
Alcohol
Beer, wine, cocktails, and specialty alcoholic beverages cost extra.
The nice thing?
Disney doesn’t push drink packages the way some cruise lines do. Many families simply pay as they go and spend much less overall.
Specialty Coffee
Basic coffee is included.
Specialty coffees, lattes, cold brews, and premium coffee drinks from onboard cafes cost extra. If you’re the type who needs a fancy iced latte every morning, budget for it.
Port Excursions
Activities in ports are typically an additional cost.
Examples include:
- Snorkeling excursions
- Dolphin encounters
- Cultural tours
- Beach clubs
- Adventure activities
This is where budgets can vary dramatically from family to family. Some families spend nothing. Others spend hundreds or even thousands depending on the experiences they choose.
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
If your little princess wants the full makeover experience, this is an additional charge.
Packages can include:
- Hairstyling
- Makeup
- Nail Polish
- Costumes
- Accessories
It’s a magical experience, but definitely something to budget for ahead of time.
Spa Services
Massages, facials, salon appointments, and spa treatments cost extra.
If you’re planning a parents-only relaxation day, factor this into your budget.
Adult Dining
Most dining is included.
However, adults can choose premium restaurants such as Palo & Enchanté.
These specialty restaurants carry an additional charge but are often considered some of the best dining experiences at sea.
Internet Packages
Wi-Fi is not included.
Disney offers internet packages for purchase if you need to stay connected.
My recommendation?
Enjoy being unplugged whenever possible.
Souvenirs
This is where Disney gets many of us.
Whether it’s:
- A spirit jersey
- A Christmas ornament
- A stuffed character
- A souvenir popcorn bucket
The gift shops are full of temptation. Set a souvenir budget before you board.
Your future self will thank you.
Gratuities
Disney automatically adds recommended gratuities to your account.
These cover the crew members who take care of you throughout your cruise.
You can prepay them or pay onboard, but they should be part of your overall vacation budget.
The Bottom Line
A Disney Cruise includes far more than many first-time cruisers expect. Your room, food, entertainment, kids clubs, pools, private island experiences, and countless activities are already covered in your cruise fare.
For many families, the only extras they end up purchasing are souvenirs, excursions, and maybe a few specialty drinks.
