One of the biggest questions I get when helping families plan Disney vacations is:

“Should we stay at a Value, Moderate, or Deluxe Disney resort?”

The answer is frustratingly simple:
They can all be worth it.

The better question is:
Which one is worth it for your family?

I’ve stayed off property, I’ve toured dozens of Disney resorts, and on our most recent family trip we actually did both. We spent most of our vacation off property because we were splitting time between Universal, Epic Universe, and Disney World. Then we finished our trip with a night at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

That final night completely changed how I view Disney hotels.

Let’s break down what you’re actually paying for at each level and where I think the value really is.

Value Resorts: The Budget Champion

Disney Value Resorts include:

• Disney’s Pop Century Resort
• Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
• Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
• Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
• Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

These resorts are designed to get you into the Disney bubble for the lowest possible price.

You’ll still get:

• Early park entry
• Disney transportation
• Disney theming
• Disney service

What you won’t get is a lot of extra space or luxury.

The rooms are smaller. Food options are more limited. The pools are fun but basic.
For many families, that’s completely fine. If your plan is rope drop to fireworks and you’re only sleeping in the room, a Value resort can be an incredible deal.

My Favorite Value Resort? Pop Century.

The Skyliner access alone makes this resort feel like it should cost more than it does. Being able to easily get to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios without waiting for buses is a huge advantage.

For families with young kids, transportation can make or break a Disney day.

Moderate Resorts: The Sweet Spot

Disney Moderate Resorts include:

• Caribbean Beach Resort
• Port Orleans Riverside
• Port Orleans French Quarter
• Coronado Springs Resort

This category is where many families find their happy place.
You get:

• Larger rooms
• Better dining options
• More beautiful grounds
• Better pools and recreation

Without the Deluxe price tag.

If you’re planning a longer trip, I often find Moderate resorts provide the best balance between cost and comfort.

My Favorite Moderate Resort? Port Orleans French Quarter.

It’s smaller, easier to navigate, and those famous beignets are worth the trip alone. When you’re pushing a stroller after 12 hours in the parks, having a compact resort suddenly becomes very important.

Deluxe Resorts: Where Disney Becomes Part of the Vacation

This is where opinions start to get strong.

Disney Deluxe Resorts include favorites like:

• Polynesian Village Resort
• Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
• Contemporary Resort
• Beach Club Resort
• Yacht Club Resort
• Wilderness Lodge
• Animal Kingdom Lodge

Many people see the price and immediately say they aren’t worth it.

I used to think that too.
Then we stayed at the Polynesian. Our room overlooked Magic Kingdom.
After a full day in the parks, both kids were asleep. My husband and I stepped onto the balcony and watched the nighttime spectacular from our room.

A few minutes later, we watched the Halloween party fireworks too.
No crowds.
No exhausted children.
No fighting transportation after the show.
Just sitting together enjoying the view.

That moment became one of my favorite memories from the entire trip. That’s when I realized Deluxe resorts aren’t just hotels. They’re part of the vacation experience.

When Deluxe Is Worth It

I think Deluxe resorts make sense when:

You’re Taking a Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip

If you’ve spent years saving and this may be your only Disney vacation for a long time, upgrading your resort can add a lot to the experience.

You Plan Resort Time

If you’re spending every waking moment in the parks, the Deluxe value drops significantly.

If you’re planning pool days, resort dining, and relaxation time, Deluxe resorts become much easier to justify.

You Have Small Children

This surprises people.

Parents with babies and toddlers often spend more time in the room than they expected.

Nap breaks.
Early bedtimes.
Diaper changes.
Midday cooling-off periods.
Suddenly that nicer room, better view, and easier transportation become much more valuable.

Location Matters

Walking to EPCOT from Beach Club?
Monorailing from the Polynesian?
Walking to Magic Kingdom from Contemporary?

Those conveniences save time and energy every single day.

So Which Category Is Actually Worth It?

If you’re focused on maximizing park days:
Value wins.

If you want the best balance of comfort and cost:
Moderate wins.

If you view the resort as part of the vacation experience:
Deluxe wins.

The truth is that Disney has gotten really good at matching resorts to different travel styles.

I’ve had clients absolutely love Value resorts because they spent every minute in the parks. I’ve had clients cry happy tears staying at Deluxe resorts because the resort itself became part of the magic.
Neither family was wrong.

The best Disney hotel isn’t the most expensive one. It’s the one that fits how your family actually vacations.
